Turning junk into a functional masterpiece

Transformed Classic Pine and Cedar Deacon's Bench / Hall Tree

Handmade
This piece has likely seen many incantations over the years.

It was likely a simple armoire in the beginning and served as a generous storage area in a kitchen or perhaps a bedroom set.

Over time the piece was added to and modified to suit a variety of owners' needs.

When I found this piece, it was an entertainment centre, custom re-designed to fit a 27" tube-style TV and various media components.  There was also some awkward storage on either side for what was likely VHS tapes at the time.

In my mind, the original intended purpose and even the re-defined purpose of this piece were very out of date.  So, I decided to dismantle it completely and reconstruct what you see here as the finished product.  I managed to re-use every single piece from the original and added in a few pieces of wood from my shop, out of necessity, for the armrests and a couple of trim pieces I just couldn't eke out of the original piece.  Oh, and some vintage coat hooks that I think suit the piece very well are a welcome addition!

This is a perfect addition to any entry hall and is untreated and ready for stain, paint, or simply a clear coat if you love what's there as much as I do.
