Have you ever seen one of those logs on the forest floor that is hollow and rotting from the inside out?
Well, this table is made from that material and a tribute to what happens naturally.
We salvaged the wood and decided to rip it down the middle with our sawmill.
We stripped the bark and removed the necessary layers of rotten wood.
What was left was a thing of beauty.
It only made sense to work with what we had, rather than trying to make the piece of maple something it wasn’t.
We laid the half log on its side, used a couple of pieces of walnut to seal the end and then fashioned a one of a kind base to hold everything up.
The icing on the cake is the custom cut irregularly shaped glass top that follows the contours of the log below.
