The portrait is taken from an original photograph I took of a friend of mine, Jason, who has always been a great subject for me. The saw he holds to his face is both dark and contemplative. The implied violence is coupled with the reality of a smooth-edged blade that resembles a bow more than a saw blade. I see this as a dichotomy in dance, between the need to express oneself either in beauty (music) or darkness (violence).
This piece is in a very rustic frame with no glass.
